Sinusitis is the inflammation of the lining of the paranasal sinuses.  It affects 1 out of every 7 adults in the United States.  30 million pepole are diagnosed each year with 1.77 billion dollars spent each year on children in the treatment of acute sinusitis. 


Cause is mainly infections

Symptoms include facial pain, cough, pharyngeal irritation, hyposmia, postnasal discharge, fever, and fatigue

Physical examination will reveal mucosal erythema, tenderness overlying sinuses, facial and periorbital erythema, air-fluid levels on transillumination of the sinuses.

Management includes use of antimicrobial therapy and surgical therapy in recurrent or persistent cases.
